Qingqing Wang, an emerging composer, holds a Ph.D. in Composition and is recognized as Shanghai Pujiang Talent. She earned her Doctorate in Composition Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of California, San Diego, and presently holds an academic position at the School of Music, East China Normal University, where she is distinguished as a "Chen Hui Scholar."

 

Qingqing Wang's professional training in composition involved mentorship from Professors Xu Zhitong and Dong Liqiang at the Central Conservatory of Music and Professors Andy Vores and Marti Epstein at the Boston Conservatory, earning her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Furthering her studies at the University of California, San Diego, known for its innovative music education and research, she studied under Professors Lei Liang, Anthony Davis, Chinary Ung, and Roger Reynolds. In 2020, she earned her Ph.D. in Composition.

 

Her oeuvre is characterized by a diverse thematic and stylistic range, encompassing genres such as orchestral, chamber, improvisational, and electronic music, along with interdisciplinary collaborations and installation art. To date, she has composed nearly 50 works. In the interdisciplinary project "Hearing Seascapes," her piece "鲸 · Whale · Ballen " was a collaborative effort with the Engineering Department and the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UC San Diego, debuting at the Calit2 Theater.

Qingqing Wang's collaborations extend to nearly 30 orchestras & ensembles, including the American Composers Orchestra, La Jolla Symphony & Chorus, EOS Orchestra, Boston Conservatory Composer's Orchestra, Loadbang Ensemble, Palimpsest Ensemble, and Schallfeld Ensemble. Her scholarly achievements include accolades from prestigious competitions such as the 4th Dvořák International Composition Competition, EarShot: U.S. Composers Project Emerging Composers Competition, ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, “Project 211” of Chinese Traditional Instrumental Original Composition Competition, and Lake George Music Festival Composition Competition. She has also participated in significant music festivals and symposiums, including the 73rd Annual, 2017 Composers Conference at Wellesley College, Boston New Music Festival, Cross-Cultural Music Symposium @UC San Diego, Beijing Modern Music Festival, and Beijing International Composition Masterclass. Additionally, Dr. Wang has served as a visiting composer at Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) and as the planning and executive director of East China Normal University's "Dialogue with the Future" Contemporary Music Week in 2020.
